Swimming
Room 14 has had fun over the last two weeks, splashing around in the school pool learning how to swim. For some of us we were prefecting our technique of free style and back stroke, while some of us were learning how important it is to breathe correctly when our heads are under water. The Hilton Brown swimming teachers were lots of funa nd taught us many new things.

Putiputi Writing
Weaving is Cool
Yesterday Mrs Bateman marched Room 14 to the gully. When we got there, Mrs Elmore was waiting for us. Mrs Elmore told us that we were weaving flax. First she said that we had to bring the shiny part of the flax close to our body and then had to make a 'v' with the flax. Then is started to pour with rain, so we had to go back to our classroom. Before long we had finished weaving our flax and then the bell went. We did it because we were learning about Maori culture.

Putiputi
Last week we were leaning all about the Maori culture. We looked at Maori songs, Maori traditional clothes and Maori food. We all wanted to try a hangi. We were also lucky enough to learn how to weave flax. Mrs Elmore took us into the gully and told us all about the flax plant and how you should look after it. We then each got our own piece of flax and tried to follow Mrs Elmores instructions to weave a putiputi (flax flower). It was a little bit difficult, but we got ther ein the end.
ASB Financial Literacy
On Thursday last week, we had a visit from the ASB superhero. He taught us all about money and how to look after it. We now now to:
- Spend to your needs, and wait for your wants.
- Spend some on you but save some too.
- Saving is like training, the earlier you start the better.
